Let’s teach math, science, and everything else differently.
How do students learn core math and science concepts in Prisms?
Linear Regression | Middle School & High School Algebra
Students sort their trash from their camping trip to discover that many items we thought could be recycled actually end up in the landfill.
Students visit a landfill to experience its impact on the local environment and community.
MISSION
Join a team of urban planners in a national park to determine when the amount of waste produced by a city’s growing population will overwhelm its existing waste management capabilities.
Student embody themselves in the x-y coordinate space to spatially and kinesthetically plot the waste produced as a function of population to generate a scatter plot.
Students rotate their bodies to minimize the distance between a trend line and the data points, to find the line of best fit and formalize the concept of residuals.
They utilize graphs to create an equation of the line of best fit and solve their mission.

TRUSTED PARTNERS
Prisms Professional Development
1
Goal-Setting and Curriculum Integration
District instructional leaders and Prisms staff collaboratively set short and long-term implementation goals and seamlessly embed Prisms modules into teachers’ year-long pacing calendars. Prisms’ modules are integrated to teach and re-engage on bottleneck topics, not only review.
2
Teacher Institute
Prisms staff lead a full-day professional development session with teachers to fully internalize the mission and origin of Prisms, VR hardware, lesson cycle, supporting curriculum materials, Teacher Dashboard, and the culture and mindsets needed for successful adoption.
3
Coaching Cycle #1
Prisms Coaches conduct lesson studies with teachers to intellectually prepare to facilitate a Prisms lesson and model exemplary lesson execution in the classroom.
4
Coaching Cycle #2
Prisms Coaches conduct lesson studies with teachers to intellectually prepare to facilitate a Prisms lesson and co-teach/
observe/give feedback on teacher execution in the classroom.
5
Ongoing Support
Between Coaching cycles, Prisms teachers have round-the-clock access to coaches and tech support to answer any questions on planning lessons.
Making the move to spatial learning easy for all kids and all teachers
Building a new medium for learning takes time. As we go into our third year of research and iteration, we are thrilled to release the next set of features to make teaching and learning with Prisms as easy to use as possible!
Wrap-around teacher aids and services for high fidelity implementation
Live Teacher Dashboard
Where teachers can monitor and provide feedback to students in real time. Teachers can either see exactly what a student is seeing through our casting feature or an event timeline that displays everything the student has done until this point, informing questioning and conferencing strategies.
Language Accessibility
All modules released are available to translate into 6 languages: Spanish, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Vietnamese, Mandarin, and Russian. Choose this for subtitle text, text display and task station interfaces, voice over, or all three!
VR Assistive Agent
Prisms assistive agent in VR supports students during critical moments of struggle with responsive, multi-modal, spatialized guidance that enables them to utilize the tools afforded to them and achieve success with every task.
Kinesthetic Skill Building Modules
After students have learned concepts and skills with our learning modules, students can utilize our kinesthetic skill building modules to gain speed and efficiency with the procedures.
VR Synthesis and Paper/Pencil Transfer
Activities through which students synthesize their learnings from the VR experience immediately after they come out of the headset with clear ties to standards-based vocabulary, notation and procedures. Transfer activities allow students to apply their learning to new scenarios and contexts to ensure students have mastered the concepts and skills
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT & ONGOING LEARNING ENHANCEMENTS
Curriculum Integration Processes
Through alignment with district leadership and teacher workgroups that provides clear “swap out” placement so that teachers have a clear understanding of when to use Prisms and confidence that the same learning outcomes will be achieved using the Prisms module.
Lesson Study Processes
That empower teachers to anticipate when their students may struggle with concepts in VR and provides them with the talk track of socratic questioning to support students through their struggle. Leaves teachers feeling prepared to teach any Prisms module.
Ongoing Asynchronous Learning Opportunities
Through virtual Learning Series focused on high impact instructional routines, on demand videos, community building that rapidly builds teacher capacity with problem-based learning powered by Prisms.
Strategic PD Planning & Commitment to
District Outcomes
The Prisms team will collaborate closely with district leadership to outline clear instructional goals for first, second, and third year teachers in addition to co-construct a measurement plan that effectively evaluates the impact of Prisms learning model on student and teacher outcomes.
The Paladin Community
Prisms Paladins are Lighthouse educational leaders who embody an unwavering passion for unlocking human potential and a new chapter for STEM education reform, because they believe our current methods are not serving what students need to fall in love with learning, and commit their lives to solving difficult, important problems that our world needs the next generation of thinkers and entrepreneurs to solve. Prisms Paladins understand that this is not a technological fight, but a pedagogical one. It is our collective mission to bridge the gaps in STEM education and help each of our students build lifelong identities in the mathematical sciences whether they choose to become an engineer or scientist, or to advocate for human first applications of the frameworks of math and science.
The Prisms Paladins Community
See what Paladins have to say
“I see being a Prisms Paladin as a proclaimer of what math was always supposed to be. It would be my hope to open the eyes of teachers I coach to teach math to be able to solve those [real-world]  problems. Teach area and perimeter by talking about fencing and the inside of a yard you are fencing. Talk about surface area by taking about packaging items to be more eco friendly-  Learning about quadratics is boring but mix in drones dropping those packages you just boxed up and now kids are all over those lessons. THIS is what we should be doing. Not just drill and kill lessons.”
Yajaira ‘Doc’ Brown
Coachella Valley High School. k12 Instructional Coach
“Albert Einstein believes that learning should be an experience, everything else is just information. I wholeheartedly agree. Prisms examplifies the pedagogical innovations we need to enable this kind of spatial and experiential learning for our students.”
Hao Zhai
International School of Tianjin, Technology Director
“I use Prisms in my biology class to engage students in new phenomena, to build foundations for complex concepts, and to provide students with equitable experiences in science to make science stick. Giving students the opportunity to grasp difficult concepts through kinesthetic learning has created a unique learning space. Students who don't normally speak out have a space to experience science on their own and at their own pace. Every student leaves my classroom with an experience we can use to make connections and look back on. “
Cassandra DeBottis
Kingwood Park High School, Humble ISD, Science Teacher
“Prisms can help to bridge gaps in education between race, gender and socioeconomic status. It enhances the overall student engagement in this technical digital age and it provides multiple instances of experiential learning...My impact goes far beyond just the four walls of my classroom but rather across a nation of students who are in need of engaging and beneficial experiential learning.”
Nathaniel Jean
Dunbar High School, DCPS, Math Teacher
